New Delhi: Even as the BJP was dealt a blow by veteran party leader LK Advani resigning from all party posts on Monday, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said that it was a big blow for everyone.
Senior leader and patriarch of the BJP resigned from all party posts a day after Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was anointed the chief of the poll panel. Advani had been reportedly miffed at the elevation of Modi and especially the haste with which it was being done. Advani had been advocating two committees – one for the General Elections and one for the Assembly Elections – with Modi and Gadkari being the respective heads. However, BJP president Rajnath Singh announced in the recently concluded National Executive meet that Modi would be the chief of the poll panel, virtually bypassing the octogenarian leader. Senior leaders like Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj were present along with Rajnath Singh when the announcement was made.
