New Delhi/Kolkata: A 40-year-old man was on Monday killed and a child injured in "unprovoked" firing in a case of ceasefire violation by suspected Bangladeshi border guarding force personnel in north Bengal, officials said. The incident occurred around 0930 hrs in Uttar Dinajpur area of West Bengal, they said, adding one person identified as Mohammed Fareed (40) was killed while a 14-year-old boy Soor Alam was injured.
A Border Security Force (BSF) patrol reported to its headquarters in Delhi that three rounds were fired and it suspected the hand of the Border Guards Bangaldesh (BGB).
After the incident, the BSF demanded a flag meeting with its counterparts.
"We have sent our Inspector General for the flag meeting," BSF Additional Director General (East) B D Sharma told PTI. BSF guards the 4,000-km-long Indo-Bangaldesh frontier and has taken seriously this incident of firing and ceasefire violation as it has happened after a long time, the sources added.
