Congress leaders demand for naming of CM candidates immediately, overhaul within party
Two weeks after Congress president Sonia Gandhi formed a committee headed by senior party leader AK Antony to introspect the reasons behind the worst-ever performance of the party in 2014 General Elections, candidates who lost during the polls have called for radical changes within the party while asking for an immediate announcement of the chief ministerial candidates in the poll bound states.

New Delhi: Two weeks after Congress president Sonia Gandhi formed a committee headed by senior party leader AK Antony to introspect the reasons behind the worst-ever performance of the party in 2014 General Elections, candidates who lost during the polls on Saturday called for radical changes within the party while asking for an immediate announcement of the chief ministerial candidates in the poll bound states. According to reports, the embarrassing poll defeat have left the Congress shaken from top to bottom, due to which many leaders, who lost during the polls are putting the blame over the senior party leaders. Speaking to an English news channel, Congress leader Mahabal Mishra said, "Sheila Dikshit could not send out the right message on the issue of electricity and had become egoistic."
As Congress prepares the report on its poll defeat, it seems that the introspection process has exposed the divide with-in it`s own party members.
On one hand some Congress leaders in Madhya Pradesh have complained of massive infighting and complete absence of organisational support, as per the report. On the other, in the poll bound state Maharashtra, the state Congress Committee has revealed that several state leaders were extremely critical of CM Prithviraj Chavan`s leadership and are now asking the top leadership to fix responsibilities ruthlessly.
While in Bihar, the blame has been directed towards a delay in forming a poll alliance with the RJD. Andhra Pradesh leaders were also furious over the hasty bifurcation of the state which they believed was responsible for the party`s debacle.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar said, “Candidates for the Lok Sabha elections should have been announced six months in advance and candidates for Assembly Elections should have been announced three months in advance unlike Chennai south where the candidate was announced two hours before the nomination.”
Earlier, Antony had said, "Congress policy is equal justice to everyone. But people have doubt whether that policy is being implemented or not. This doubt is created by the party`s proximity towards minorities, and such a situation would open the door for the entry of communal forces into Kerala".
The AK Antony Committee was also informed earlier that the failure of the Congress to match the aggressive campaign by Narendra Modi led to the party`s debacle in the Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Party leaders had also informed the committee that Congress was no match to the propaganda machine unleashed by the BJP under Narendra Modi.
The four-member Antony Committee was constituted by the party after the rout in the polls which saw Congress securing just 44 out of 543 seats in the Lok Sabha, its lowest ever.
