Chandigarh: Normal life took a hit in Punjab and Haryana as heat wave conditions intensified in the region, where Hisar in Haryana was the hottest with a maximum of 46 degrees Celsius.
Temperature shot up across the region and remained above normal by as much as six notches, the Met department said. Narnaul in Haryana recorded a maximum of 45.6 degrees, six degrees above normal, followed by Bhiwani 44.4 and Ambala and Karnal 42 degrees Celsius.
Union Territory of Chandigarh recorded a maximum of 41 degrees, up by three degrees above normal. In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a maximum of 44.4 degrees, while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded 44.3 43.5 degrees Celsius.
Met department said the condition will continue to prevail over next couple of days.
