New Delhi: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said on Sunday that he missed his wife Sunanda Pushkar a lot and that they had shared an intense relationship during the four years that they were together.
Talking to news channel, Tharoor said that the last five months since Sunanda had died was `excruciatingly painful` and that the sudden and abrupt tragedy had take a toll on him emotionally.
He also said that he was extremely “horrified to discover that some people would stoop so low” as to use his personal tragedy for “political benefit.”
“Fortunately, her son, father and brothers are solidly behind me and no one has any suspicion of foul play,” he told the news channel, adding that he had a `clear conscience`. Tharoor also clarified that he had nothing to hide and maintained that he had fully cooperated with the police. However, he expressed his unhappiness at the amount of time that was taking in investigating his wife`s death and said that the whole family was waiting for the report.
"(It is) increasingly clear that they (police) have not filed an FIR, there is no chargesheet, there is no case, it is increasingly clear that there is no basis for taking the case very much further. I hope they will soon be in a position to come up with conclusion as all of us in the family, we would want this matter to be laid to rest," he said as quoted by PTI.
On a emotional note, the Congress leader said that he had broken down when Sunanda had died. He emphasised that they were a happy couple and had their up and downs as any other normal couple.
“I miss he every single day. She has left me with some wonderful memories,” he said, adding that only he knew the pain that crosses him every single day.
Sunanda, 52, was found dead in a 5-star hotel in South Delhi on the night of January 17 this year. This was a day after her spat on micro-blogging site Twitter with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar over an alleged affair with Tharoor. The south district unit of the Delhi Police is investigating the case. A sub-divisional magistrate had directed Delhi Police on January 21 to investigate the murder or suicide angle in the case. This was after the autopsy report had cited the death as `sudden and unnatural` while the cause of death was mentioned as poisoning.
