New Delhi: Both houses of Parliament were adjourned sine die Wednesday, two days ahead of the scheduled close on Dec 20.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die shortly after the Lokpal bill was passed.
The Rajya Sabha, meanwhile, took up a brief discussion on the arrest of Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade and took up clarifications on a statement made by Commerce Minister Anand Sharma on the recently concluded World Trade Organisation meet. However, as the government tried to introduce a constitutional amendment bill on the India- Bangladesh land swap, members protested.
As ruckus prevailed in the Rajya Sabha on the bill, the house saw several brief adjournments before Chairman M. Hamid Ansari adjourned it sine die around 5 p.m.
For the present government, this was the last parliament session in which legislative business could be taken up. The next session would be a truncated budget session meant for passing an interim budget for government functioning till a new government is formed.
