Islamabad/ New Delhi: A day after five Indian soldiers were killed along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan on Wednesday blamed “unproved Indian firing” that left two Pakistani soldiers wounded yesterday.
Senior commanders from both sides have spoken over hotline after the incident. Pakistan Army Director General of Military Operation (DGMO) has strongly refuted India’s charge of violating LoC and said that there is no truth in the charge. News agency Reuters quoted an Indian Army officer in J&K confirming that two Pakistani soldiers had been wounded - or possibly killed - in an exchange of machinegun fire in Kamalkot Uri sector in northern Kashmir around midday on Tuesday.
He said Pakistani troops had opened fire and Indian forces had retaliated.
The latest flare-up has once again strained the already difficult relationship between the two nations. However, spokesperson for the ruling Congress party, PC Chacko, has confirmed that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s proposed meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in September on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) was still on.
