New Delhi: Keeping up with its tradition, Google today pays tribute to yet another legendary personality.
With a doodle, Google celebrates 201st birthday of Adolphe Sax, a Belgian musician and instrument designer who invented the saxophone. Click on the homepage and you can see the image of Adolphe playing the saxophone. He also invented the saxotromba, saxhorn and saxtuba.
Born in Belgium on 6th November 1814, Adolphe Sax began to make his own instruments at an early age. His father and mother were instrument designers themselves, who made several changes to the design of the horn.
“The son of an instrument-maker, Sax was highly creative and had a deep understanding of brass and woodwinds. He started tinkering with instruments of his own, and upon bringing together the body of a brass and the mechanics of a woodwind created a hybrid that would revolutionize music. His eponymous saxophone had a sound all its own, a wonderfully smoky middle ground between the two,” Google says on its Doodle website.
Sax suffered from lip cancer between 1853 and 1858 but made a rare full recovery and lived until he was 79. He died in 1894 in Paris.
