Orissa HC judge elevated to Supreme Court
Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, Justice Chokkalingam Nagappan, has been appointed Supreme Court Judge by President Pranab Mukherjee.
Chennai: Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, Justice Chokkalingam Nagappan, has been appointed Supreme Court Judge by President Pranab Mukherjee.
In its notification, the Law Ministry said the President is pleased to appoint him in exercise of the Powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution.
Justice C Nagappan is going to take charge on September 19, sources said. Justice Nagappan, who hails from Karur district in Tamil Nadu, was born on October 4, 1951 and did his BSc from Madura College at Madurai.
He then did his ML In Chennai in 1977, securing Gold Medal. He was elevated as a Madras High Court Judge on September 27, 2000 and further elevated as Chief Justice of Orissa High Court on February 27 this year.
With his entry, the number of Judges from Tamil Nadu in the apex court will rise to three, including the Chief Justice of India, Justice P Sathasivam. Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifulla is the other judge.
