Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday flagged off an expedition to Leh-Ladakh by a group of 25 student bikers of a state university here.
Wishing students a happy and safe journey, Badal said such expeditions imbibe the spirit of adventure among students besides offering an opportunity to acquaint them with art, culture, language and cuisines of different regions. He said such initiatives also help disseminate the message of `unity in diversity` across the geographical boundaries of the country.
According to an official spokesperson, this expedition aims to project Punjab as an educational hub, spread an anti-drug message and boost adventure and sports activities amongst students and faculties. The 16-day expedition would enter Himachal Pradesh from Kirtpur Sahib. After passing through Manali and covering Leh-Ladakh, it would reach Kargil.
Upon their return, the bikers would cover Jammu, Srinagar and would then enter Punjab from Madhopur in Pathankot district.
Organised jointly by the Punjab Technical University (PTU), Jalandhar and a private educational institution, the bikers would cross 17 passes including Khardung La, Chang La, Tanglang La, Zojila and others.
They would also touch two borders of Pakistan and China.
