Rajasthan bypolls final tally: BJP wins 19 seats, Congress 14, Independents 4
The results of the local bodies by-elections in Rajasthan have been announced.
Jaipur: The results of the local bodies by-elections in Rajasthan have been announced.
While the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bagged 19 seats, the main opposition party Congress won 14, Independent candidates managed only four out of 37 respectively that went to polls on Tuesday.
The elections were held for 3 zila parishad seats, 10 municipal seats and 24 panchayat samiti seats.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today thanked people of Rajasthan for BJP's "good performance" in local bodies bypolls after the ruling party bagged 19 out of 37 seats.
"I thank people of Rajasthan and congratulate @BJP4Rajasthan & CM @VasundharaBJP for BJP's good performance in the local polls," the PM tweeted.
Winners for three Zila Parishad seats
BJP candidates Santosh Patidar and Murlidhar won in Banswara and Bhilwara
Congress candidate Pyareshwari emerged winner Jalore.
24 Panchayat samiti seats
BJP and Congress won 12 and 10 seats respectively while two seats were captured by Independent candidates.
On 10 municipal seats in nine districts, BJP won five, Congress three and the Independents won on two seats.
In a shot in the arm for BJP after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's demonetisation move and ahead of Gujarat elections next year, the party swept local bodies elections by capturing 107 seats out of total 123 seats which went for polls in different parts of the state.
The BJP registered an its impressive performance in the first round of civic polls in Maharashtra and emerged as the single largest gainer with 52 seats followed by Shiv Sena 23, Congress 19, NCP 16 and others 28.
