The students were amused to find an old man in their midst writing answers on day 1 of the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education exams at the Government Senior Secondary School in Roopwas.

Mayor Shiv Singh had dropped out of school in 1971.

“I want to become at least Class 12 pass now,” the Hindustan Times quoted the mayor as saying.

The class 10 board exams in Rajasthan began on Thursday with the English paper. Singh said he has done well and is now preparing for the next paper on March 12.

Shiv Singh had contested the municipal election in 2004. In 2014, when Bharatpur municipality was upgraded to a municipal corporation, he got elected as Bharatpur’s first mayor, the paper said.
