The new Discover technology will give quicker and much more accurate notice of approaching storms, subsequently allowing Earth to brace itself, the Daily Express reported.

The satellite, soon to be launched by The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), will take 110 days to reach its position 1.6million km away from Earth.

And when it does, Dr Kathryn Sullivan , administrator of the NOAA, says it will act like a "weather buoy off-shore."

While solar storms might create a mesmerizing sight, they have the power to wipe out mobile communications, GPS navigations and even entire power grids.
