Apart from changing logo, Instagram also changed its app design.

According to the Facebook-owned photo-sharing app, the new design reflects how the Instagram had transformed since it was created.

The new logo was announced Wednesday via a blog post on Medium from Ian Spalter, Instagram's head of design.

The interface looks less colorful than earlier versions, and that's done by design, said Ian Spalter, Instagram's head of design, in a post on Medium.

"The simpler design puts more focus on your photos and videos without changing how you navigate the app," reads a statement from Instagram published Wednesday.

The app, which has become a major platform for celebrities, now has more than 400 million users.
