Islamabad: At least eight people were killed and six others injured Tuesday in a land-mine explosion in Kurram tribal region in north-western Pakistan, a media report said. The victims were travelling from central Kurram region near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border to Parachinar, when their vehicle struck a land-mine planted on the roadside, Dawn online reported Tuesday. Police personnel and rescue teams shifted the injured to Head Quarters Hospital in Kurram Agency. Kurram agency, which is close to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, is one of the seven regions in Pakistan`s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), governed by tribal laws, the report said. An extremist insurgency led by the Pakistani Taliban plagues the region while the area is known to be infested with militants, including the al Qaeda, Taliban and several other armed extremist organisations.
