NASA to rename iconic Florida facility after Neil Armstrong
NASA is renaming one of its iconic facilities at Kennedy Space Center in honour of the legendary astronaut Neil Armstrong.

Kennedy Space Center, Fla: NASA is renaming one of its iconic facilities at Kennedy Space Center in honour of the legendary astronaut Neil Armstrong.
The US space agency will rename the historic Operations and Checkout (O&C) Building, where Armstrong stayed and his lunar spacecraft was readied before launching to the moon, during a July 21 ceremony.
The ceremony will have remarks from NASA Administrator Charles Bolden, Kennedy Center Director Robert Cabana and Armstrong`s Apollo 11 crew members Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin. The event will be carried live on NASA TV as well as the agency`s website. Armstrong`s family is also expected to attend the event.
Built in 1964, the Operations and Checkout Building was previously known as the Manned Spacecraft Operations Building. The facility has played a vital role in NASA’s spaceflight history.The high bay was used during the Apollo program to process and test the command, service and lunar modules. Armstrong, who was the first person to set foot on the moon, died in August 2012.
The facility is being used today by NASA to process and assemble the Orion spacecraft as the agency prepares to embark on the next giant leap in space exploration, sending astronauts to an asteroid and Mars.
