Heavy rains continue to lash Chennai on Monday forcing the authorities to order closure of schools and colleges.
Chennai: Heavy rains continue to lash Chennai and parts of Tamil Nadu on Monday, throwing the normal life completely out of gear.
In view of incessant rains, the authorities gave ordered the closure of schools and colleges in Chennai and other affected cities. Anna University has also postponed examinations due to heavy rainfall in Chennai.
The IMD had on Saturday earlier predicted that the low pressure over Bay of Bengal will bring rains to Tamil Nadu and Puduchery on Sunday and Monday.
The Regional Meteorological Center had warned of 'heavy to very heavy rains' for the two days.
Due to the low pressure over southwest Bay of Bengal rains could be expected at some places in Tamil Nadu and Puduchery, the weather office said.
There was a possibility of rains in most places in the state and the neighbouring union territory for the next two days with the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rains in some places, a statement from the Regional Meteorological Center said.
Meanwhile, the inter-ministerial Central team which is touring the state to assess the damage caused by rains and flood will submit its report to the Centre within a week, informed TVSN Prasad, Joint Secretary in the Union Home Ministry, who is leading the team.
