Pushpa, who reportedly slapped DMK MP Trichy Siva at Delhi airport, was on August 1 expelled from the party by its supremo J Jayalalithaa on a day when she claimed she was slapped by a "leader" and faced threat to her life in Tamil Nadu.

Jayalalithaa said Sasikala Pushpa acted against the party's principles and code of conduct and also in a manner that defamed the party.

Pushpa alleged in the Rajya Sabha that she was facing a "life threat" and that she was being "compelled to resign".

"I fear threat to my life. I am being compelled to resign from my constitutional post by my leader, for whom I have much gratitude."

Outside Rajya Sabha, Sasikala claimed her expulsion had no link with the airport incident involving Siva, also a Rajya Sabha MP, and that pressure was being put on her for the last two months to resign.
