Following their eviction, state Finance Minister O Paneerselvam moved a resolution seeking suspension of all DMK MLAs for continuously disrupting the proceeding of the house.

Accepting the resolution, the Speaker suspended all DMK MLAs for a week.

Speaking to reporters outside the house, Stalin said that the entire episode was scripted by the government to prevent the DMK from raising issues during the debate over grants for the Home Department, handled by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

Stalin added that ruling party MLAs and ministers have been regularly making disparaging comments to provoke DMK MLAs to launch a protest.
