Syed Ijaz, in his 30s, was arrested yesterday after he allegedly stole two cars - one belonging to a software professional and another of a taxi-driver - on Tuesday while claiming that he "needed those urgently", they said.

"On Tuesday afternoon, as the software professional was waiting for his fiancee near his vehicle in Ghatkesar, Syed noticing the key inside the car, entered the vehicle and drove away," K M Raghvendra Sub-Inspector of Raidurgam police station said.

"The software professional chased him but in vain," he said.

That night, after finding a tyre of the car punctured, Syed left it in Raidurgam area and allegedly stole a car of a taxi-driver while the latter was answering the nature's call, the SI said.

"The taxi-driver alerted police, who chased the accused and nabbed him from Golconda area even as Syed claimed he was the owner of the car," Raghvendra said.

During preliminary investigation, the accused revealed that "he needed the cars urgently", but the police said that Sayed was leading a lavish life and hence, may have resorted to stealing the vehicles and using the same.

A case under Section 379 of IPC has been registered and investigation was underway, police added.
