Hyderabad: Amidst tight security arrangements, polling began at over 243 polling stations in Palair Assembly constituency in Khammam district of Telangana as part of the by-election.

Over one lakh 90 thousand voters will decide the fate of 13 candidates, who are in the fray for the by-election.


The by-election was necessitated following the death of sitting Congress MLA Ramreddy Venkat Reddy.


The Election Commission is using the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail devices for the first time in the state Assembly Election.


Nearly 2700 polling personnel have been pressed into poll duty. Additional security has been deployed at 142 polling stations that were identified as hyper sensitive and sensitive in the constituency.


The poling will continue till 5 in the evening. The counting of votes will take place on 19th of this month.
