The law student poured kerosene over his body in front of the central office in the varsity campus here but was stopped by the security guards there, they said.

Sachin Kumar Srivastava, a third year student (5th semester) in faculty of law in BHU, was unable to afford his semester fee and get an admit card to appear for the examination, which began today, distressed over this he allegedly made a suicide attempt, said Rajesh Singh, Assistant Public Relations Officer (APRO) of BHU.

The guards after stopping them, took him to his Law faculty Dean, RP Rai, who after knowing about his problem gave him Rs 5,000 and remaining Rs 10,000 were arranged from his friends and other students of the faculty, said Singh.

Sachin has taken an admission on paid seat and the fee was Rs 15,000 ,however he has never informed about his inability in paying the fee to his faculty head or BHU administration or VC, or sent any letter in this regard, so that any help could have been extended to him by the university, said Singh.

Singh said, BHU provides all support to students from poor background or those students who have genuine reasons for non-payment of fee, lodging or mess. In such cases the university bears all the expenses of students on its own.
