Zee Media Bureau/Tarun Khanna Ghaziabad: After Samajwadi Party leaders` insensitive remarks on crime against women in Uttar Pradesh, its the state Governor Aziz Qureshi who on Monday courted controversy by saying that even almighty can`t prevent occurrences of rapes. Qureshi, when asked to comment on the safety of women in UP, said that even if the whole Army and police were deployed, rape incidents cannot be prevented. “Not even God can prevent rapes,” said Qureshi. He further went on to say that though rape incidents cannot be prevented, police must act swiftly on the cases. “There shouldn`t be any politics on rape incidents,” he added. Slamming Qureshi`s remarks, the BJP`s UP in-charge Laxmikant Bajpai said that the former should apologise to the people of the state. Qureshi had been administered oath of office as UP Governor last month. Earlier, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav drew flak for saying that the least number of rapes takes place in UP. “The population of UP is 21 crore. If there are least amount of rapes in this country, they are in Uttar Pradesh. Every crime cannot be checked in the state."
