"We know that the students of Calcutta University and its affiliated colleges have been facing immense difficulties at different levels and on several fronts," ABVP leader said.

ABVP members said their supporters were "stopped by the police and baton-charged" and over 40 of their activists were arrested during their 'Save Calcutta University Movement' march from Shyambazar crossing to the Calcutta University premises in north Kolkata.

Citing "police atrocities", the youth wing said it could not submit its charter of demands to the vice chancellor.
