State news agency SANA, however, reported that six people were killed, citing the Homs governor who gave a preliminary toll.

Al-Zahra` is a district inhabited by adherents of the Alawite minority, an offshoot of Shia to which the ruling elite in Syria belongs.

Earlier this month, over 20 people were killed and tens of others were injured when a bombing rocked the same neighbourhood.

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack.
