Moscow: President Bashar al-Assad said that if people of Syria consider it necessary then he is ready to hold a presidential election and also take part in it.

He also expressed his willingness to discuss Syria's constitutional amendments and hold parliamentary elections, Reuters reported.


According to Russian lawmaker Alexander Yushchenko, Assad told the Russian delegation at a meeting in Damascus, that he is not against taking part in the presidential elections as it was necessary for the people.


The report has come just a day after a Russian minister had said that Moscow wanted Syria to prepare for parliamentary and presidential elections.
