China mulls law for online data protection
A draft bill that aims to help protect personal online data will be deliberated Monday at a bimonthly session of China`s legislature.
Beijing: A draft bill that aims to help protect personal online data will be deliberated Monday at a bimonthly session of China`s legislature.
Hailed by internet and telecom experts, the move comes amid China`s efforts to secure people`s personal online information.
China has seen increasing online scams and identity thefts in recent years as its internet sector rapidly grew, the China Daily reported Saturday.
Police said it is difficult to trace suspects when they use unregistered mobile phone and wireless network cards, and fake credit cards for online fraud.
"The lack of a sound law system to protect personal information in China is a serious problem," said Li Yuxiao, an expert with Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
