Dublin: Dublin Airport is experiencing flight delays after a cargo plane`s nose wheel collapsed after it landed, forcing the main runway to close.
The Dublin Airport Authority says nobody was hurt today when the forward landing gear of the Metroliner twin-turboprop aircraft failed. The plane, operated by the Munich, Germany-based freight carrier Bin Air, was carrying two pilots and cargo.
It thumped to a stop with its nose on the tarmac. Five flights were diverted and dozens delayed as authorities shut the runway. Unfavorable wind conditions meant it took more than an hour to open a backup runway.
Dublin Airport is the busiest in Ireland, with more than 300 flights daily. In 2011, a Metroliner operated by the Manx2 airline crashed in heavy fog at Ireland`s Cork Airport, killing six people.
