The European Commission boosted security at its headquarters in Brussels, a spokeswoman said Friday, after Belgian police said they had smashed an Islamist cell planning an attack.

"The commission has also decided to increase its alert level," Mina Andreeva told a briefing. "This is simply a precaution. We dont have any indication of any specific threat."
