Berlin: Top German intelligence officials will soon be travelling to Washington to investigate the claims of spying on Chancellor Angela Merkel`s phone by the United States.
The foreign and domestic intelligence heads of Germany will hold talks with officials of White House and National Security Agency (NSA) in the US to seek answers on the alleged spying, as per news reports.
Allegations of spying have been made against the NSA that it accessed tens of thousands of French phone calls and even monitored German Chancellor Angela Merkel`s phone call. After the reports of US spying, an appalled Merkel had said, "Spying between friends, that`s just not done."
"We need trust between partners and such trust needs to be re-established," she said.
Germany and France had even demanded a "no spying" agreement with the US by the end of the year. The charges against the US are being made after a former CIA contractor, Edward Snowden, leaked the classified documents that revealed the secret surveillance program.
