Beijing: At least 62 websites, blogs and microblog accounts were shut down in a fresh crackdown on online pornography in China, the government said Thursday. The State Internet Information Office said the websites were closed for posting pornographic images, articles, films, self-made videos and advertisements for prostitutes, Xinhua reported. Some of the websites featured pop-up windows with advertisements containing vulgar and pornographic content and ads for sex-related drugs, the office said.

Most of the websites were not registered with government departments.

The ministry of industry and information technology has been advised to punish the telecom companies who provided services for the websites.
