According to the United Nations four million Syrian and host community children are in need of education.

In five years of armed conflict, more than 15,000 children have crossed Syria borders without their parents and at least 25,000 have been killed.

The distressed children in midst of the conflict between President Bashar al-Assad's forces and the rebels, have started taking to the streets with brooms to start up a clean up campaign.

More than 70,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed and more than three million displaced since the uprising against Assad began in March 2011. In addition, some 1.1 million people have taken refuge in neighbouring countries. UNICEF estimates that out of the four million people in need, 50 per cent are children.

UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Peter Salama said, “The scale of the crisis for children is growing all the time, which is why there are now such fears that Syria is losing a whole generation of its youth.”
