A 6.7-magnitude earthquake hit Kaohsiung county on February 6, Xinhua news agency reported.
According to officials, 213 people were pulled out from the debris of the Wei Guan residential complex that collapsed after the quake in Tainan city. Of these, 38 died before reaching the hospital.
However, signs of life were detected at the 16-storey building, said William Lai, the mayor of Tainan.
