London: British Liberal Democrat politician for equalities Jo Swinson believes that demeaning ‘fat phrases’, like muffin tops and thunder thighs, should be banned. Swinson, 33, said that it is depressingly common-place to hear women, and even young girls, insulting their own bodies, as fat talk and body-shaming easily become a habit and an expectation. Swinson said that people need to promote positive body image so they can increase healthy behaviours. Swinson added that poor body confidence can have a devastating effect on many aspects of women’s lives, from achieving at school to succeeding in the workplace.
