What if a girl is born without a vagina?
How would a girl feel and what would her life look like if she was born without a vagina?
New York: How would a girl feel and what would her life look like if she was born without a vagina?
27-year-old Joanna Giannouli, who currently lives in Oxford, had to face this situation when she was 16 years old and has now learnt to live with it.
Joanna was born with Rokitansky syndrome, which means she has no cervix, no womb and no upper vagina.
She came to know about this bitter truth years ago after a family doctor referred her to the hospital when she still hadn’t menstruated.
She was formally diagnosed and told that she was born with this rare condition.
Recalling the incident, Joanna said she was told by the doctors after further examination that she was never going to have children.
She has since undergone major re-constructive surgeries for creating a new vaginal tunnel in order to have normal sexual intercourse.
When questioned about her desire to have kids, she was quoted as saying by Independent, ''if I wanted to have a biological baby there is one solution, and it’s surrogacy, then IVF. But it’s an extremely risky operation to begin with, still in clinical trial stage.''
However, she is glad to have received enormous support from women across the world who have similar condition and have now decided to speak about it.
