MUMBAI: Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan was admitted to Mumbai's Nanavati Hospital on Saturday evening after he revealed he has tested positive for coronavirus. His actor son Abhishek Bachchan has also tested positive for COVID-19. Other family members, including Jaya Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aaradhya and their staff had also undergone coronavirus tests and were found negative.

A tweet from Big B's official Twitter handle said: ''I have tested CoviD positive .. shifted to Hospital .. hospital informing authorities .. family and staff undergone tests, results awaited .. All that have been in close proximity to me in the last 10 days are requested to please get themselves tested!''



Meanwhile, Abhishek said, "Earlier today both my father and I tested positive for COVID 19. Both of us having mild symptoms have been admitted to hospital. We have informed all the required authorities and our family and staff are all being tested. I request all to stay calm and not panic. Thank you."



Former Maharashtra chief minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis was among the first political leaders to have wished for the speedy recovery of the Bollywood superstar.  



As the news broke out, hashtags #AmitabhBachchan and #Abhishek Bachchan started trending on Twitter and other social media platforms. Get well soon messages are pouring in for the father-son duo from Bollywood celebs and others. 




Actor Manoj Bajpai tweeted, ''Wishing you a speedy recovery Sir.''




Actor Rajkumar Rao too wished for speedy recovery of the superstar. 



Boman Irani wrote on Twitter, “You’re a fighter Sir. Get well soon.”


Anupam Kher, Amitabh's costar in several hit Bollywood movies, also wished for the actor's good health.  



Actress Divya Dutta wrote on Twitter, "You are extremely precious sir!! Speedy recoveries to you!! Get well really soon!!! Lots of prayers n love. Regards''



Among other politicians, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Jyotiraditya M Scindia tweeted, ''I pray for your speedy recovery. Please take care.''



West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee tweeted, ''Extremely saddened to hear the news of Shri Amitabh Bachchan Ji testing COVID Positive. Praying for his strength & speedy recovery.''



Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar was also taken aback by the news and he also wished a speedy recovery for the superstar. 



Amitabh Bachchan was last seen in Shoojit Sircar’s comedy-drama 'Gulabo Sitabo' alongside Ayushmann Khurrana. The film was initially going to be released in theaters, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it premiered on Amazon Prime Video.


Big B is also slated to return to host the twelfth season of 'Kaun Banega Crorepati'. The auditions of the show concluded in May this year.


Amitabh Bachchan’s upcoming movies include 'Chehre', 'Brahmastra' and 'Jhund'.


Meanwhile, Abhishek made his web series debut with 'Breathe: Into The Shadows' on Friday.
