Dr Jalil Parkar said Kumar's kidneys are functioning and he is not on dialysis.

The 94-year-old actor was admitted to the city-based Lilavati Hospital in suburban Bandra on Wednesday morning for treatment of dehydration and a urinary tract infection.

"He is better today. He is not on dialysis, not on ventilator. His kidney functions are improving," Dr Jalil Parkar told PTI.

A family friend, Faisal Farooqui, also shared an update about Kumar's health on the actor's official Twitter page.

"Dilip Saab is doing much better now. Please remember him in your prayers. -FF," he posted.

"The excellent team of doctors and staff of Lilavati Hospital along with Saira Baaji are caring for Dilip Saab 24x7. -FF."

Hospital officials had earlier said because of his age, Kumar would be under observation and remain in the ICU for the next two or three days, depending on how his body responds to treatment.
