RGV`s latest production - God, Sex And Truth - starring American porn star Mia Khalifa - was released on internet last month.
Mumbai: Controversy’s favourite child Ram Gopal Varma is in news once again for all wrong reasons. Women’s Rights groups in Vishakapatnam have sought the filmmaker’s arrest and have threatened hunger strike if action is not taken against him, reports suggest.
RGV’s latest production - God, Sex And Truth – starring American porn star Mia Malkova – was released on internet last month and the filmmaker was booked for obscenity and also for allegedly insulting the modesty of a woman.
According to a report in thehindu.com, Ms. Lakshmi of Progressive Organisation of Women on Monday said, “We take exception to such derogatory remarks, as it hurts womanhood. Moreover, he does not know how to respect and speak to women.”
The activist also expressed her displeasure over RGV’s comment on Ms. Mani, an AIDWA activist during a TV show.
“Despite, we lodging a complaint with the District Collector in Visakhapatnam and the Police Commissioner and filing a complaint in a police station, no action has been initiated against the director,” she said.
The filmmaker, whose controversial was released on internet last month, was quizzed on Saturday for nearly three-and-half hours by the officials of the Central Crime Station (CCS).
The police officials questioned him about the allegations made against him by women activists.
The officials seized Varma's laptop and served another notice under Section 41 of Criminal Procedure Code, asking him to appear before them once again next week
On January 25, a day before the release of the movie, Varma was booked by the CCS. A case under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 was booked against him for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form.
The filmmaker was also booked under sections 506 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly making personal comments against women activists during the debate on the movie on some television channels. When activists accused him of promoting obscenity, Varma allegedly offered to make similar movies with them. He has been charged with insulting the modesty of a woman.
