New Delhi: Veteran filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi, who is credited for making solid women-centric films in her career such as Rudali and Daman to name a few is battling kidney cancer and has been rushed to the ICU reportedly.

According to thequint.com, the celebrated filmmaker has been braving the deadly disease for past some months now. The 61-year-old director was rushed to a Mumbai hospital after her condition worsened reportedly.


The report quotes Lajmi's mother as saying that her daughter's condition remains critical. Kalpana is on dialysis which takes place four times a week as she doesn’t have two kidneys anymore—one was operated on and the second one is also affected.


Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit has been quoted as saying that all her medical expenses are being incurred by Indian Films and Television Directors Association, Aamir Khan and Rohit Shetty.
