New Delhi: Even though, a few days ago the Congress accused the ruling NDA of trying to encash the valour of the Indian Army to get votes, it itself has also joined the bandwagon with the opponents in trying to project its party as one whose heart bleeds for the soldiers of Indian Army.
In a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi has brought up the issues like 7th Pay Commission, OROP, disability pension, parity in ranks with civilian counterparts, and has urged the Prime Minister to look into these grievances of the soldiers.
“...the disability pension system was was converted to a new slab system, that in many instances, drastically reduces the pension received by these brave men in case of a disability. The roll out of th 7th Pay Commission continues to keep our defence forces at a disadvantage and further exacerbates the disparity between them and civil employees. To add to that we learn through the media that the government has downgraded the status of our military officers vis a vis their civilian counterparts”, said Gandhi in his letter addressed to PM Modi.
"I urge you Prime Minister to ensure that our soldiers get their due, whether it is regarding compensation , disability pension ,or parity with civilian employees. .OROP must be implemented in a meaningful way to satisfy our exservicemen and the anomalies in the 7th Pay Commission must be addressed at the earliest...”, Gandhi added.
