Heatwave sweeps through various parts of India, here`s list of states where mercury is rising

IMD said Northwest India and adjoining parts of central India are likely to see more intense and frequent heatwave conditions in April.

Delhi

The minimum temperature in Delhi on Sunday settled at 23.5 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of "heatwave conditions" in several parts of the city.

According to the IMD, the maximum temperature in the national capital is expected to touch 42 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The weatherman has forecast a possibility of heatwave conditions at many places with "severe" heatwave conditions at a few places across the city.

Rajasthan

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heatwaves in most parts of Rajasthan and severe heatwaves in isolated pockets across the state for the few next days. Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jalore, Pali, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Nagaur, Ajmer, Jaipur, Tonk, Alwar and Churu districts of Rajasthan will have to brace for severe weather.

Alwar was the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 45.8 degrees Celsius. The weather office has issued a red alert warning of an intense heatwave in some districts of western Rajasthan.

Gujarat

According to the Met department, northern parts of Gujarat and Kutch are also likely to experience similar sultry weather conditions from April 8-11. The heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in Kutch, Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Patan, Porbandar, Rajkot, Surendranagar and Amreli.

Haryana

At 44.5 degrees Celsius, Gurugram was 10 degrees warmer than average on Saturday. Gurugram's all-time high maximum temperature of 44.8 degrees Celsius was recorded on April 28, 1979. The mercury settled at 45.2 degrees Celsius in Haryana's Faridabad.

Other states

IMD has forecast heatwave to severe heatwave conditions in isolated pockets of Punjab over the next five days. Heatwave conditions will also be observed in isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh from April 9-12. Severe heatwave conditions in isolated pockets over west Madhya Pradesh on April 10 and 11, IMD said.
