63 people were killed in a stampede at the Ram Janki Temple of Kripalu Maharaj in Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district, as people gathered to receive free clothes and food from the self-styled godman.

A stampede triggered by rumours of a bomb going off at the Chamunda Devi temple in Rajasthan's Jodhpur city killed nearly 250 people and injured more than 60 others.

Satara (January 25, 2005)

More than 340 devotees were killed and hundreds injured during an annual pilgrimage to the Mandhardevi temple in Maharashtra's Satara district. The accident occurred when some people fell down the steps, which had been made slippery by devotees breaking coconuts.
