Pune: In a tragic incident, a three-year-old girl lost her life when she, along with her family members, was hit by a speeding car while she was standing on the median for crossing the road in Baner.

The car spun out of control of the driver, who was a middle-aged woman, and crashed into the divider, hitting five pedestrians, including the young girl.


The injured included the mother of the deceased girl, who has been identified as Isha Vishwakarma.


The incident occurred at around 2.40 pm on Monday in front of Vasudha Society on Baner Road near Baner Phata.


The driver has been identified as Sujata Jayprakash Shroff, a director of a construction company headquartered in Pune.


Police say that Shroff has also received injuries for which she is being treated at a private hospital.


Footage from a nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera has also been retrieved by police.

An offence was registered against Shroff under Sections 304(a) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 279 (rash and negligent driving) of the Indian Penal Code.
