Punjab: Heroin found stacked in sandals, soft drink bottle near border
BSF has recovered 67.736 kg of heroin so far this year.
Chandigarh: Smugglers desperate to get their contraband across the border stuffed a soft drink bottle and a pair of sandals with heroin but their luck ran out with the border guards BSF stumbling upon the consignment.
While 175 gram of heroin was found stuffed in sandals near border out post Khemkaran Kasur in Ferozepur sector, 2 kg of the narcotic substance was found in a cold drink bottle concealed in a pipe being used to irrigate fields near Border Out Post Daoke in Amritsar sector yesterday.
In the first incident, the contraband was found when BSF troops were performing Kissan Guard duty ahead of the border security fence, a BSF official said.
The troops spotted a white polythene lying in the fields. When the polythene was checked, a pair of sandals was with heroin stuffed in it was found, the official said.
In another incident, BSF troops found a soft drink bottle filled with 2 kg of heroin, BSF official said.
It was concealed inside a pipe which was three feet long and 10 inch in diameter and it was connecting two fields, the official said.
With this seizure, BSF has recovered 67.736 kg of heroin so far this year.
Smugglers have been trying ingenious methods like throwing small packets and using tubewells to push drugs into Indian territory from across the border.
