New York: New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira says this will be the final season of his 14-year career in Major League Baseball.
The five-time Gold Glove winner, who is in the last year of an eight-year contract, said he leaves with no regrets and the joy of owning a World Series ring.
"After 14 years, it`s time for me to do something else," Teixeira announced at a news conference prior to the Yankees series-opening game against the Cleveland Indians. "I got to live out my dream and had more success than I could ever have imagined.
"I tried my best. To have a World Series ring with the Yankees is something I`ll never forget."
Teixeira, a three-time All-Star, is a .269 career hitter with 404 home runs, 1,836 hits and 1,281 RBIs with the Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels and Yankees.
Teixeira, 36, is batting .198 with 10 home runs and 27 RBIs in 77 games this season.
