Eid al-Adha to be celebrated on November 6
Eid al-Adha, the feast of sacrifice, also marking the end of the main Haj ritual, will fall on November 6, authorities in Saudi Arabia have said.
A statement issued by the Saudi Higher Court said the new
moon was sighted yesterday which corresponds to 29th of Zul
Qaadah, the month preceding Zul Hijjah, a month in the Islamic
calender that started on Friday.
Eid al-Adha marks the end of the main Haj ritual which is
the Day of Waqfa (Standing at Mountain of Arafat in Makkah) on
the 9th day of Zul Hijjah.
Eid al-Adha, which is marked by millions converging in Makkah Islam`s holiest site falls on the 10th day of this month.
Countries across the Gulf region generally follow Saudi Arabia`s announcement in this regard and Eid across the region is likely to be celebrated on November 6.
However, the day of Eid will be decided by the local
sighting of the moon.
