UP elections 2012: Bhatta Parsaul vote for BSP

Rahul Gandhi might have created a hue and cry over land acquisition but the voters in Bhatta-Parsaul appeared to have preferred ruling BSP.

Bhatta-Parsaul: Rahul Gandhi might have created a hue and cry over land acquisition and targeted Mayawati for alleged police atrocities in these villages of Greater Noida but the voters here appeared to have preferred ruling BSP.
BSP candidate Vedram Bhati trumped Congress` Dhirendra Singh by a margin of 9,500 votes in Jewar constituency in which the twin villages of Bhatta-Parsaul fall. Bhati polled a whopping 67,524 votes while Singh could gather only 58,024.

Samajwadi Party`s Bijendra Singh Bhati came third with 35,166 while BJP`s Sunder Singh Rana was way behind with 6,334 votes. There were a total of 19 candidates in fray.
These villages had hogged attention last May following a violent agitation seeking enhanced compensation for land acquired by the government, leading to police action.

Gandhi, who had visited the villages soon after the incident, had alleged that women were raped by policemen during the agitation and many were lathicharged.

Mayawati government was continuously attacked by Gandhi during his numerous political rallies.
He had even targetted Samajwadi Party claiming that no one other than Congress workers had visited the villages after the incident.
PTI
