Ganguly opted to go with the opening pairing of Matthew Hayden and Alastair Cook, while many would question that Cook's name could have been replaced by Virender Sehwag or Sourav Ganguly himself.

Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar come in next in the line-up.

One of the finest all-rounders of all time, Jacques Kallis come in at 5 followed by Kumar Sangakara.

Ricky Ponting was named the captain of the side at no. 7, followed by Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Muttiah Muralitharan and Dale Steyn.

Wasim Akram was also a surprised omission, considering he is one of the best fast bowlers ever if not the best.

Here's Sourav Ganguly’s all-time XI:

Matthew Hayden (Australia), Alastair Cook (England), Rahul Dravid (India), Sachin Tendulkar (India), Jacques Kallis (South Africa), Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka), Ricky Ponting (Australia, captain), Glenn McGrath (Australia), Shane Warne (Australia), Muttiah Muralitharan (Sri Lanka), Dale Steyn (South Africa)
