Baghdad: Iraqi police say five people have died in an attack on the home of a government employee northeast of Baghdad.
Diyala provincial police spokesman Col Ghalib al-Karkhi says gunmen broke into the house of Interior Ministry worker Tariq Mohammed in the city of Baqouba early today and shot him dead, along with his 18-year old son. Minutes later, a bomb planted by the gunmen exploded as neighbours rushed to the shooting scene. The blast killed three and wounded five people.
Baqouba, the provincial capital of Diyala, is 60 kilometers (35 miles) northeast of Baghdad.
Although the level of violence in Iraq is nowhere near where it was five years ago when the country almost descended into civil war, deadly attacks on government employees and security forces are still common. PTI
