Rajkot: Opposition leader in Gujarat assembly, Shaktisinh Gohil, on Sunday alleged that the Narendra Modi-led government had failed to handle the law and order situation and the crime rate had gone up in state.

"Crime rate has gone up in the entire state but the Chief Minister is not concerned and is busy wasting money on Sadbhavna fasts," Gohil said, addressing a public meeting in Dhebar Chowk here.

Gohil led Congress` `Sardar Sandesh Yatra` into Rajkot last night. Demanding the appointment of a Lokayuta in the state, Gohil alleged that Modi deliberately created hurdles "fearing exposure of corruption of his government".

"Modi deliberately creates hurdles in the appointment of Lokayukta because of fear of exposure of corruption of his government," the Congress leader said. Promising to abolish service tax and surcharge on petrol and diesel if Congress came to power, Gohil accused Modi of siphoning the "huge tax" on fuel for his Sadbhavna fasts.
